He owner became ill and couldn't care for them anymore so Violet took her freedom ride to DAWS to find her forever home. Violet is incredibly sweet. She is shy at first, but still friendly and will go up to see people. Violet will benefit from a dog-savvy owner who is willing to help her come out of her shell and settle into her new home. This gorgeous girl is Lass. She is a one-year-old Australian shepherd or collie mix and weighs 34 lb. Lass is a high energy young dog whose ideal home is with somebody that’s active and ready to train. She can be slightly shy when meeting new people but does quickly warm up, especially with treats and toys involved. She does need some work when walking on leash as she will try to back out of it and does not seem to have much experience with a leash. Lass is food motivated and ready to learn! Lass does exhibit a lot of traits that herding dogs have, like car reactivity and wanting to herd other dogs. She would do well with dog-savvy children and would enjoy an active doggie friend to play with. We don't know what Lass thinks of cats, but can cat-test her if needed. This adorable girl is Lady. She is 3-years-old and is a chunky 60 lb. We are not sure of her breed mix, with her not-very-tall body, white feet and belly with black speckles and a curled tail. Whatever the mix, she is really cute! Lady is a very fun and sweet dog who is excited to go up to everyone she meets. She is playful and well mannered, though she does jump slightly and her weight could potentially cause someone to be knocked over. She does listen well to direction. Lady doesn't show a lot of interest in toys, but does have fun playing with other dogs although her stamina is short. She is confident and curious and would do amazing with children of all ages. Lady would love to have a dog to play with but would also be fine as the only dog in the home. She is just a well-adjusted doggie! This pretty girl is Martha. She is a 5-year-old lab mix and weighs 40lbs. Her foster says "Martha is very sweet, loves being pet, is food motivated, and has a low to medium energy level. Martha is settling in very well. She hasn’t had any indoor accidents, knows how to sit and is learning that putting on a harness is not so scary and leads to going outside which she loves. Martha walks well on a leash but will pursue after a squirrel or anything that moves given the chance. Martha does have some anxiety, one is with men, but she is warming up to my husband and met a male friend the other day and did well. Martha doesn’t like to be taken by surprise by being touched when she is not awake, so we have been calling her to wake up before touching her. Martha did meet our neighbors’ 10-year old daughter and did very well, but I would not recommend her to be around small children because of her anxiety issues." This pretty kitty is Lana Del Grey. She is 1 1/2-years-old and weighs 7.4 lb. Lana has a gorgeous soft blue mackerel tabby medium-length coat. Her foster Says "Lana is shy but affectionate once she has adjusted. Most likely she will take a few weeks to get used to a new home, but once settled, she is very, very happy and sweet. As long as she is given the occasional space she needs, Lana will seek out interaction and pets. Lana is very sedentary, but has started playing with toys recently and is becoming much more open to activity. Lana's favorite activities include sitting in a cardboard box, chewing on said cardboard box, watching sports and crime dramas (especially Criminal Minds), making biscuits, being swaddled like a baby in a comfy blanket, staring at her own refection in the mirror, exploring and playing with toys." We think he is a foxhound mix. Bandit is a very sweet dog who loves any kind of attention. His goofy ears are sure to catch anybody's attention. Bandit loves to put his paws up on your lap so that he can give your face kisses. He's a big dog that does not quite know his size but he's food motivated and ready to learn. He has already learned so much during his time at DAWS. Bandit is a people's dog and immediately loves anybody he meets. He would like to be in a home where he isn't alone for long hours. Although Bandit is an active boy who does like to play, he's just happy to be doing anything as long as it's with people. Jasper is one-year-old and with his scruffy muzzle, we expect has some terrier in him. Jasper weighs about 40 lb and is a very happy, friendly, playful pup. When interacting with him, Jasper is very wiggly, sweet and gives kisses. Jasper would make an amazing family dog and would do great with children of all ages. Bubbles was a local owner surrender and went from living outside in a yard to now living at a loving and supportive foster home. His foster says "Bubbles is a different dog than when I first got him. He has adapted very well to living indoors. Bubbles is extremely affectionate but he needs a little time and patience when meeting new people. Bubbles is playful, loyal and listens well when called by name. He is sometimes clumsy on his long legs. He gets along well with other dogs. Bubbles needs some leash training and can get mouthy when excited, but he is easy to redirect. Bubbles is fully housetrained." Zorro is our longest resident at DAWS and has been here for four years. During that time, this 70 lb. six-year-old shepherd mix has been working very hard on training and we believe his time has come to find his furever home! Back in 2019, when Zorro first arrived to DAWS after being saved from a high kill shelter in Kentucky, he began developing some behavioral challenges, making it difficult to find him the right home. Through extensive training, Zorro has proved himself to be a pup that can develop solid friendships with humans, and even befriend select dogs. Zorro has been trained using treats and he eagerly sits, lies down and gives a paw on command. He’s done very well with car rides. He has enjoyed many hikes, walks, and play-time with his volunteer team. Time and time again, he has shown what a good boy he is, he just needs to find that special person! With a dog like Zorro, he will need a very specific adopter... Zorro Owner Requirements: • Experienced dog owner • Adult-only home with no kids or future children • Must be the only pet in the home • Has to have an understanding of positive reinforcement training • House with a fenced yard of at least 6 ft. • Willing to slowly introduce Zorro to people close to the family and educate them on Zorro’s do’s & don'ts • Come and meet Zorro multiple times If you think you can be the hero that Zorro needs, please complete our online application.
